Well, it looks like Rafa Benitez has his first signing of the transfer season and its a doozie. The Times and The Sun are both reporting that Portsmouth has accepted Liverpool's bid for Glen Johnson for a reported £19M. The Sun states that Johnson will report for a medical in Liverpool tomorrow. There is a chance Chelsea could still pip them for the fullback, but we have a bid reportedly accepted.

Wow. Never thought this would go down, figured he would take the money and goto City.
I kept saying fullback was the weakest spot, so this is good. Though that is a shitton of money for a defender.
the nice thing about this, if it goes through, is that the 7M or so still owed for crouch would go towards this, so only 11M or so outlayed for him.
sell arbeloa for 10M, then we're back to about even.
Sorry dudes, but the offer has only been accepted by the club, reportedly, the player may still decide to saunter someplace else if he drags his feet and other offers come in. That is something I'm afraid of, I would love Johnson at Anfield, but I'm wary of the City and Chelsea interest, this story is nice to see but still a fair ways from signing him.
And where's the love for Arby?Yes, he's made some high profile mistakes and he's not a top, top fullback, defensively or driving forward. But he is technically sound, reliable and can cover across the entire back four... a perfect squad player(even with Darby there). From a season with just Arby at rightback to one with just Johnson at rightback is an improvement, maybe, but doesn't improve the squad.
Also, apparently David "Bit shit" Bentley is in talks over at Villa. Word is Villa are also after either Tom Thirtystone or Jermaine Jenas.
@Bilal: I only said the bid was accepted by Portsmouth. I did note that there was still a chance he wouldn't come to Anfield.
true, apologies for the tone, I read the news first at BBC 606 and people there are either crying about the fee in badly written English, or rejoicing and urging Arbeloa's sale, that got me a little irked which carried on in my comment.
Probably explains why I live in the UK but mostly read US based blogs like this and Oh You Beauty for my football news...
yeah...the fee seems a might bit steep, but if the articles linked in the post are correct, LFC had the chance to sign him in January for 8.5 and couldn't get it done so you get what you deserve. although, that doesn't make much sense because the outstanding amount still due for crouch would have made it even cheaper. so maybe it wasn't close.
and, I should have added this in before...
Johnson is going to have change his preferred items for stealing if moves to liverpool. no more toilet seats, only hubcaps.
maybe he can even go along and rob the everton players' homes.
