The deadline passed yesterday and today FIFA announced the 11 teams who fancy a crack at hosting the World Cup in 2018 and 2022. Those who will spend millions on fancy drawings, scale models, super models AND footballing superstars to plead their case are as follows...England, Australia, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Indonesia, a joint effort from Portugal/Spain and the U.S.A.
Qatar and South Korea applied to bid for 2022 only.
FIFA will now accept bidding agreements and a 24 man panel will announce that England, I mean U.S.A, I mean the winner in 2010.
The next World Cup is being held in South Africa next year, Brazil will host the event in 2014.

Judging by how incredibly corrupt FIFA is, I wouldn't be shocked if Russia came away with it. Mexico would be pretty badass, though you know England is shitting their pants over the prospect of dying alive in the heat there again.
For feasibility of seeing games I'd like to see the USA take it ..... but I've got a feeling Spain/Portugal is gonna be the winner.
I heard they were thinking of nuking joint bids if there were single countries they felt would be able to hack it alone.
I also heard Australia has an inside track for 2022 as they want them to get it, but can't spend 3 tournaments in a row in the Southern Hemisphere.
Will there even be any fans left after back-to-back visits to two of the world's most crime ridden countries? I mean, it has to go to a country where there's less than 30% chance of being either raped or murdered.
USA! USA! USA!
I'm still doubting whether SA will be ready in 2010. Here we go USA!
@Andrew
Alan Pardew would respectfully disagree.
hey! we're in there too you know!
@ Ben: So would Manchester Utd's New Years Party.
after my expose on South Africa, don't get me started on crime in the favelas of Brazil!
