MLS on S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y... Night!

Hey folks... Some exciting action in the Prem today, but we thought we'd recognize that there are a couple MLS matches on Fox Soccer tonight as well:

Houston v. Columbus - 8pm EST
Chivas v. Colorado - 10:30 EST

First up, the always strong Dynamo host the champions Crew. Then it's Chivas v. the Rapids.... Watch out for the streamers. This all means there's something like 18 hours of live footie on FSC today. Get in!

I'll be tuning in to a bit of the games. Join me in the comments, or feel free to come anticipate tomorrow's big Liverpool v. Villa tilt.

Stuart Holden looks like he is 12 years old.

Wow, the Houston pitch looks terrible.

I missed the beginning. Was there any explanation for the condition of the field?

Goat said...

Although I shouldn't complain. It's better than the gridiron marks that usually mar this field.

Spectator said...

Nope. No way to explain it other than they play at the University of Houston. MLS really will benefit when all the teams have soccer-specific stadiums.

Goat said...

They just explained that they just installed it and "there's a lot of sand underneath." Does this place serve as a sand soccer venue during the week?

Houston's shirts with the one light blue sleeve are hideous.

Spectator said...

Ewww I just noticed them.... They really do look stupid. I kind of like the Columbus Crew bumblebee colors, but those black kits must be killers in the summer.

Goat said...

They don't wear 'em often. I guess there's not much occasion to wear your road kits when your home ones are all yellow.

Spectator said...

Columbus better start marking those crosses

Goat said...

They've dodged a few bullets already.

I'm fading in and out here... zzzzzzz.

Neither one of these teams can finish. Gavin just blew one. Quite frankly, Spectator, I'm surprised you've lasted this long.

Woke up just in time for the action to get going again!

This pitch is ridiculous. The ball bounces along weird. Might as well punt it in the air.

Goat said...

That was a nice little bit of skill by Gavin.

Goat said...

That would suck if Robbie Rogers went out.

Okay I've had enough. Feel like I've done my public service and watched a bit of MLS.

Hey all, make sure that you see a highlight of Kenny Cooper's 60 yd goal to open the scoring against the Fire. He picked the ball up on the Dallas side of the field, saw the keeper off his line and lofted it in. Should have been saved, but almost all goals of this type should be.

I apologize that I'm just getting to this now...but a few things:

UH doesn't give a rat's ass about the Dynamo, and had no reason to have a decent field. The Dynamo put the field in 2 weeks ago, and hoped that it would "take" in that time. No such luck. So, yeah, it looked and played like a sandbox. Welcome to the MLS! (Fuck you MLS)

Ching's goal was a thing of beauty, based on three sweet passes on the floor, and if the 2nd pass had been too heavy, the Crew GK would have had it...

That said, beautiful goal by Schelotto to tie it up on the first touch off the chest...

I'll take a tie against the best team in MLS to open the season, when we've spent the last 3 years proving that we don't show up until May. Especially when we start Geoff Cameron as a CB???!!! Does any non-Houston fan realize that he's never been anything other than a MF or S before tonight? Seriously...

Really? That's just odd about Cameron.
