Scotland Weekend Review

Rangers 2-0 Dundee United Rangers' win at home pushed them to the top of the SPL table, passing idle Celtic. The directors were so overjoyed, they decided to pass Celtic in park size as well, as plans to make Ibrox fit 70,000 were released today. Both Rangers goals came in the first half, and the second one seemed to break United's spirit. The second half produced no more goals, but plenty of Rangers chances.

Falkirk 0-0 Aberdeen Aberdeen saw a scoreless draw move them up a slot ahead of Dundee United. Falkirk, though, dominated the match, despite going a man down early in the second half.
Aberdeen was lucky to hang on to the point as Falkirk continued to stream forward looking to end a 16-match endless streak against the Dons. They didn't. It's 17 now.

Inverness CT 3-0 Gretna As promised, ICT handled Gretna without much of a problem. Like the Rangers match, here the home side put the game out of reach by halftime. All three goals were scored in the first 45 minutes, and Caley Thistle coasted to vitory.

St Mirren 2-1 Hibernian St Mirren pulled off a minor upset at home, toppling 8th place Hibs by the odd goal in 3. The Buddies' first goal came off an attempted cross flying into the net, and found themsleves two up at the half. Hibs pulled one back in the 89th minute. Andy Dorman, late of the New England Revs, stayed on the bench as St Mirren's new signing. Attendance: 4212.

Hearts 1-1 Kilmarnock That's it.

Raith Rovers 0-1 Ross County Ross County pulled off the away win in Division Two, sending them to the top of the table. In what must have been a contentious turn of events, the goal came in the 34th minute, with Rovers then being given three yellow cards in the 35th. According to the Raith Rovers site, their players were cautioned for arguing that the goal had been caused by a deliberate hand ball. Ross County's site, conveniently perhaps, has not been updated on the game.

UPDATE: Quick midweek preview.
St Mirren-Rangers On the face of it, this should be semi-easy pickings for Rangers. However, the SPL is unkind to top teams on the road with quick turnarounds. I think we'll see the Buddies take a point off of the visitors in a dull, difficult and nasty match.
Draw 1-1

Wow, three yellow cards one minute after the goal? That's impressive.
