UF Quick Throw: Kaka to Real Madrid

According to this.

We're pretty sure that we ran a 'Kaka to Citeh' post in January, so take this with as much salt as you like. One thing in its favor is that there were reports of nuevo presidente Florentino Perez being seen having dinner with Bosco Leite, who is both father and agent of Kaka, last night.

[Update: More thorough report from the Guardian here. Basically the deal is close but the commission due Leite is holding it up.]

[Updated update: We've balked at updating this a couple of times already because once we think something has happened, something changes. Huh? Dirty Tackle has the best run down. Take it away, boys.]

No Kaka, no Gorcuff, and the corpses of horse teeth and becks? Oh yeah, Milan are on the rise baby.

1) Sell Kaka.
2) Buy 10 other players.
3) Profit.

Hey, wait. That's not supposed to make sense, is it?

Aren't Milan in pretty dire financial conditions?

Yea, as are most Italian clubs. When the biggest clubs can't sell out their matches, it can't end well.

Isn't European football in dire financial conditions? Maybe I should have written:

1) Spend like the apocalypse is nigh
2) ?
3) Profit

I just remember them saying last summer they could no longer compete with the biggest clubs as far as transfers go. Selling him and Gorcuff is a good sign that's true.

Pato is next.

They have to keep Pato at least for another year or two (not sure how long his contract is for). But his value is only going up.

They can finance a few good moves with the sale of Kaka. But relative to England and Spain, Italy are in a bit more trouble.
