EPL Open Thread

Uh-oh, it's another EPL weekend with a late thread!

Come on LFC. Only 3 goals in 40 minutes spread around 6 games. And 2 of them were scored by Bolton. Madness!

The story so far...
Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
Man City 0-0 Arsenal
Middlesbrough 0-2 Bolton
Portsmouth 1-0 Hull
Stoke 0-0 West Brom

Aston Villa v. Man U is the late game today.

draw at home against fulham? its not december is it?

BackBergtt said...

coming this summer, robbie keane, lucas leiva, in the new blockbuster: WORST SIGNINGS EVER!

BackBergtt said...

fulham are going to win this game

BackBergtt said...

hey look babel on with a whopping thirteen minutes

EbullientFatalist said...

Woah. Comment fail on my part.

BackBergtt said...

so keane finally gets a full 90 and its the game he has done fuck all

alonso has been great since coming on

lucas, horrible

rafa, go to madrid

BackBergtt said...

what a disgrace. the only difference between this year and last year is when other teams dropped points liverpool were usually playing later in the day, THEN dropped points to a supposedly inferior side

the decision to not start alonso cost them 45 minutes. absolutely horrible decision. its days like this that will make me not miss rafa when he goes back to spain.

sell lucas in january and for fucks sake try kuyt or babel as a striker instead of keane ONCE

Looks like this is going to be a season to forget for the Arsenal. UEFA Cup might be a stretch at this point.

Rafa couldn't wait to unsettle Keane. He deserves everything he's (not) getting from Keane.

BackBergtt said...

RAFA OUT

BackBergtt said...

keane just looks uncomfortable, i dont think he can handle the pressure. shame.

you cant win the league drawing at home against fulham and stoke. and they wont. united are going to win the league by at least five points.

phil said...

Hasn't Keane scored 2 goals in Champion's for Reds? He's got 33 goal in 85 international appearances, as well. Over 100 EPL goals. Hard to say a guy like that can't handle pressure. Perhaps it's that Rafa has no earthly clue how to handle Keano.

BackBergtt said...

yeah, against psv, big fucking deal

he clearly looks uncomfortable and unless rafa is the one telling him 'hey look, dont ever shoot, whenever you get the ball and are in a good position; make a terrible pass to someone in a worse spot, also make sure it goes to a defender'

the concept of players not being able to handle playing for a big club is not new

BackBergtt said...

and as shown by his stats, yes, we all know he is incredibly talented. and now that rafa has been playing him up front instead of in the midfield like back in august (what the fuck was that rafa?) he ought to be able to do something. it honestly looks like its all in his head; which i guess is more encouraging because that can go away

BackBergtt said...

oh and i dont want to sound like im blaming this game on keane; he didnt have many chances to pass the ball to a fulham player because the midfield was just carcinogenic.
when your strategy turns to 'lets have reina launch balls to the penalty area', thats not a good sign

BackBergtt said...

rio coker playing right back against united? well looks like united is closing the gap with a 6-0 win today

I don't think it's a big club problem, but more of Keane being unsure of himself, due in large part to two things, IMO. One was Rafa's inane strategy you pointed out of playing him at midfield, but it also seems like Keane and Torres just aren't on the same page. They still need time to bed in and get used to one another. I think it'll work out if Torres can keep himself on the pitch.

I also don't think it should be discounted that Reds were without Gerrard today, which was likely a huge factor in the midfield morass.

Am I the only person that finds the eminent shittiness of University of Michigan football to be an incredible source of joy?

Yay Arsenal!!!

I totally expected a result like this though today. Rather sad when you can see this shit coming from a mile away.

BackBergtt said...

good points all around.

they did look really good together earlier in the season, keane was setting him up left and right. but as there are no international games until march hopefully they can stay fit.

and yeah gerrard being out obviously was the problem. because even if alonso didnt play, lucas would definitely not have. lucas is not the signing rafa thought he was (like oh so many of his other signings) and they need to get something for him before his value is about as much as a carton of newports.

and its not like fulham are bad, theyve been playing very well lately, im more pissed at how badly the team played and how horrible central midfield was. i dont ever expect mascherano to be the creative linchpin in midfield so i will cut him some slack, but lucas has got to go

"It's a flattering result for Manchester City. The attitude was right because we fought very hard. We lacked a bit of maturity to dominate the game. I don't think Man City created a lot. I think we were quite in control of the game. We have no big issues - just the fact we didn't win the game. We have a good attitude, a good spirit. We'll turn it around."

wow. sucks for arsenal fans.

per the bbc "Brad Friedel equals the record for consecutive Premier League starts today on 166."

the usa, we know keepers

Since I was watching online and do not speak Iranian and since I am a Yank and do not know all the intricacies, can someone explain to me why vanPersie's goal was disallowed? Does a player need to give the keeper room to operate?

tevez just mls'ed a shot out for a throw in. thats right, a shot went out for A THROW.

Here's my shit-ass day so far from the previous thread (complete with typos):
"JT, much obliged. I ended up going to Fado as those others seemed to be farther away than my out of shape ass can handle. But I would have been better off sitting in my hotel room with my thumb up my ass than watching that shit from Arsenal. To make matters worse, the local ABC affiliate is showing LaSalle-GW rather than the promised Ohio State Michigan and no one answered when I called to voice my drunken displeasure. On the plus side, I did see some dude at the bar with two young kids (maybe 5 and 8) who was attempting to talk to them about soccer. He was watching the Liverpool-Fulham game and when he said down with his kids said something like "look at these guys, they're superprofessionals. Just look at how long they can throw the ball in." He then proceeded to talk about the red team, berate his 5 year old over spilled milk (literally) and promise that he'd show them a slide tackle if and when one occurred. I wanted to punch him in the face."
I need a nap.

jape, the ball cannot be kicked while the keeper is holding it in his hands, and the drop from the hand to the foot on drop kick is considered one motion, so the ball cannot be intercepted by a field player when the keeper is dropping it to his foot.

phil said...

Take faith, Georger. CR looks a bit nicked.

phil said...

Anderson on for CR on 81' and CR snubs Anderson coming off. Classy.

phil said...

ManU ends nil-nil with Villa. They end pissing and moaning for a handball, when the ball was clearly off Barry's chest, not his arm.

BackBergtt said...

i think theres some bad blood between cr and anderson over the international game

well today stings alot less now i must admit. thankyou villa!

phil said...

What happened in the international match? I missed most of the international action this week.

BackBergtt said...

silva accused ronaldo of trying to break his leg with a tackle at the end of the game when portugal was out of it apparently.

phil said...

I see. That really doesn't make CR any less of a jackass, though. He was obviously limping when he came off, as well. If they lose both he and Berbatov for any amount of time, it's trouble.

jape said...

Thanks Phil.

As an Arsenal fan watching Villa for 2 weeks in a row it is really refreshing to see a team play and especially defend with energy, desire and balls. The Arsenal could use a bit of that.
