EPL Open Thread

What a treat! Less than 4 days after a round, we get another one. It's like Christmas come early! Well, 3 days early. And on a Wednesday.

Full slate of EPL (not counting Newcastle and West Brom, who 2-1'd it yesterday), but still plenty of intrigue, like how Spurs will use their new-found Redknapp Power at the Emirates, and just how well Liverpool will fail to convert their momentum from the Chelsea match as they host Pompey at Anfield (who have their own brand of New Manager Power too!)

Oh, and Aston Villa will play someone.

After the jump, the fixtures. Comment away!

Arsenal v Tottenham
Aston Villa v Blackburn
Bolton v Everton
Fulham v Wigan
Hull City v Chelsea
Liverpool v Portsmouth
Man Utd v West Ham
Middlesbrough v Man City
Stoke City v Sunderland

I predict the following:

Draw, Home Win, Draw, Away Win, Away Win, Home Win, Big Home Win, Away Win, Draw

2-0 to the Arsenal. 'Arry gives everyone a spell in the "fucking reserves" as punishment.

anyone got a stream for pool? myp2p and livefooty arent working for me

Listening to Hull/Chelsea on the radio with the Hull commentators. They are great. Even though Chelsea scored early, Hull has hit the post and it sounds like its end to end.

I second Mike's request... both those sites are 404 for me as well. Odd, because myp2p was up about 3 hrs ago.

woah! Bentley in!

Mike Georger said...

word on the street is thats the goal of the season by bentley, not having seen it i would be inclined to agree

Mike Georger said...

"We've just seen the goal of the season. The ball is bouncing all over the place just inside the Arsenal half and David Bentley, a la Matt le Tissier against Blackburn in 1995, knees the ball up and volleys it over Manuel Almunia from fully 40 yards. We might have just seen Bentley's 'Beckham' moment. "

my2p2 is back up

Found a feed, it really sucks though... I hear Martin Tyler for about 10 secs at a time before it hangs.

Spuds up 1-0.

Villa losing 1-0, thanks to former LFC lad Stephen Warnock

hockalees said...

Gallas just skied one after Gomes fumbles a corner... should have got a shot on goal. 22nd minute.

Mike Georger said...

pool playing like cold diarrhea in a dixie cup. most telegraphed letdown game of all time.

hockalees said...

Just saw a replay of the Bentley goal... WOW. Gooners will have to watch highlights of that one for years to come.

Still 0 - 1 Spurs in the 28th minute.

Mike Georger said...

carra with a shot on goal, i love it. better now, sense of urgency.

JT said...

lampard's goal

hockalees said...

Stop me if you have heard this before... Arsenal are bossing the field but cannot get off a shot in Spurs 1/3rd of the pitch.

hockalees said...

SILVESTRE!!!!

hockalees said...

1 - 1 38th minute:

RvP with an arching corner that Gomes charges and doesn't get to... Silvestre glances the header past him into the top left corner of the net.

HT

Arsenal 1 Spurs 1

Both goalies guilty of moments of poor play (although Bentley's goal was a stunner)

hockalees said...

Lost my feed... AND Arsenal takes a 2-1 lead... figures. Have to wait for the tape-delayed replay tonight I guess.

Keith said...

Villa up 2-1. Luke Young at the half, Barry on 63 after some nice work by Milner.

Mike Georger said...

bye bye pennant

Bentley's Goal

jape said...

Arsenal Up 3-1 on a third by Ade -poked in after a sweet run by Nasri.

Fuck - 3-2...

jape said...

RVP make it 4-2. Wide open now.

Mike Georger said...

goddamnit theyre gonna draw at home again. this is beyond infuriating.

phil said...

Gomes is fucking pants. We got rid of Robbo and signed the Brazilian version of fucking Robbo. Fucking Spurs. I'm naming my ulcer after this team.

hockalees said...

Just got my feed back in time for the RvP goal... they absolutley dissected the Spurs defense on that play.

phil said...

God, Hutton, which side are you on?

Keith said...

Poor Almunia never had a chance on that. Wow.

hockalees said...

@phil:
I think this performance means that 'arry goes after James and Campbell in the January window.

hockalees said...

Eboue on for Walcott in the 75th minute... trading speed for historonics.

Mike Georger said...

im an idiot

JT said...

Papa Bouba Diop with a silly handball, and Gerrard converts the penalty. 1-0 LFC

phil said...

No way 'arry ever, ever brings S*l back to the Lane. He'll go for James and Defoe, and, if he can't find a CDM among the current Spurs, probably Diarra, too.

Keith said...

Aaaaaaaaand that's a wrap. Gabby on 87 of a chip ball by Webcam Ashley

JT said...

Georger: bear in mind that we dropped several players to the bench, giving the likes of Pennant and Lucas a full game. Could be worse.

phil said...

Just too much possession by the gooners for Spurs right now and no one on Spurs appears interested in getting stuck in. 'arry's gonna have to toughen this crew up.

Mike Georger said...

yeah i know, its just the history thing that would have pissed me off considering its what happened after the 6-0 win against derby to go clean top last season

i missed the damn goal cause i was busy arguing over the decision to not sign aguero

Keith said...

And Rovers add a consogoal. 3-2 through Emerton on a freekick, and that's final.

hockalees said...

@phil... you're right about Sol...he's tainted for both clubs now, eh? Diarra would be a better choice from a talent perspective.

Diaby on for RvP in 82 minute

jape said...

Well done RvP -impressing this year for getting up off the grass every time with out any broken bones.

Mike Georger said...

youre allowed to push the keeper as hes throwing the ball now?

hockalees said...

Song on for Nasri in the 88th minute

jape said...

What he fuck was that Clichy?

hockalees said...

Jenas makes it 4-3 in 89th

hockalees said...

4 mins of ET at Emirates

hockalees said...

Spurs pouring it on..

hockalees said...

F*ck... Spuds equalize in last minute of ET. Almunia sucks

jape said...

FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!!!!!!

Mike Georger said...

appears arsenal wonmen are the best team in england then eh?

hockalees said...

What a game....unbelievable.

It was the defending more than Almunia on Lennon's goal.

phil said...

That was an epic pants-shitting at the Emirates. Live by the French defense, die by the French defense.

First Spurs goal = class. Who the hell would have expected 4-4? Glad to still see Liverpool at the top, but for how long? They're winning but not as confidently as ManUre or Chelsea. Only a matter of time until they get overtaken, I think.

Of course, overjoyed to see the mackem filth beaten. Shame it's by Stoke so we drop down closer to the bottom three again. Argh. Also very annoying to look at the table and realise that had we taken three points at the stadium of shite, our league positions would be reversed. It's close down at the bottom...
