Manchester bring home another trophy

Some cities have all of the luck. Like Detroit steadily marching to both NBA and NHL titles this year (I hope), Manchester was not content to have their teams bring home just one trophy this month. A week before Manchester United finished off Chelsea in the Champions League final, Village Manchester FC won the GFSN National League Cup. GFSN? That's Gay Football Supporters Network.

Your GFSN League Cup winners

On May 11, Village Manchester defeated Leicester Wildecats 3-2 to lift the cup, scoring the winner deep into extra time. However, the game was not without controversy. The final was held in Mansfield, and some of the locals did not take kindly to the sexual preferences of the players. Possibly because they felt left out at not being invited to the (I hear) fabulous post-game showers, these locals taunted and abused the players, management and supporters of the clubs. Thankfully, the less-enlightened folk were quickly escorted out of the ground.

Don't worry, closeted English homophobes. You'll have another chance to get thrown out of a stadium quite soon. In August, Leftfooters FC will host the International Gay Lesbian Football Association World Championship in London. The FA is helping to organize volunteers and match officials for the tournament, which is being called the "biggest gay sporting event ever hosted in the UK." I guess all of those games with Cristiano Ronaldo playing don't count because of the other players on the field, huh?

Goodbye Derby County, We Hardly Knew Ye

Derby County, tipped to relegate back to the Championship from the moment they were confirmed for promotion, have finally succumbed to their general ineptitude on the pitch. With six games left to play, there is an insurmountable 19 point gap between Derby and the currently-safe-in-17th Birmingham City. Inside, a look at Derby's horrible campaign.

Derby has played 32 games to date in the EPL (Suck it, Barclay's!), and have one win to show for their efforts. That win came in the 6th week of the season. In 16 away games they have scored a woeful six goals while giving away 40, an average of 2.5 a game. Current leading scorer for the Rams (you'll wait for the Paul Jewell comments until later, thank you) is jointly held by Kenny Miller and Emanuel Villa at three goals, the latter only caught up to Miller with a brace on Saturday, including one goal which deflected off of him into the net.

Let's look at some Derby highlights through the eyes and fingers of UF writers

The Paul Jewell story is possibly our most linked-to and most read story to date. Last I looked, if you Google "Paul Jewell video", our article is fourth in the queue. And the links come from some interesting places. I think it's safe to say that this link is our first from a gay, British message board. Thanks, fellas! We think Paul Jewell's dreamy, too, in a Bearforce1 sort of way.

Well, that's about all of the fun I can wring out of a story about the worst club in the EPL this year. Okay, one last NSFW link, for the pervs. Join us in a couple of weeks when we take a look at just what the fuck went wrong with Fulham this year, once they are relegated of course.

Team Beckham Has Another Recruit

Real Madrid midfielder and former David Beckham teammate Jose Maria Gutierrez Hernandez, better known as Guti, is getting all sorts of play in the Spanish media. And, by play, I mean pictures of open-mouthed kisses with other men splayed across the tabloids (that's him on the left, I believe).

Guti is married to Arancha de Benito (and many more NSFW photos can be found on a Google image search) but she has said they are “tak[ing] a break” from their eight-year marriage.

Let’s all be honest here, this really isn’t news in the United States except for the tenuous David Beckham connection. Plus, it’s not like this guy has come out of the closet like John Amaechi and who knows it could just be a photograph of the traditional Spanish cheek-kiss greeting that makes it look like it’s got some hot gay tongue-action.

I’m not here to judge, but let’s be clear about one thing, this is all a result of David Beckham’s influence. He led Guti down this path and he will lead Landycakes down the same path (although, some would argue he is already there…not me of course).
