It's Over in Beijing

A Looong Flight Home...

It's up to you now Pia. The American men were knocked out of the Olympic tournament this morning-- official time of death 6:53 a.m. EDT. Without Adu, there wasn't much attacking flair as Nigeria held a 1-0 death grip most of the way. The Africans added one late, as did Klestjan, but other than a free kick in stoppage time, the U.S. never really threatened to tie.

So with the Dutch winning, narrowly, against Japan, it's Nigeria as group winners. Holland follow them out the door. The US can hop a flight with the Bronx boxer kid on home. Unless they want to stay for a while in the Olympic village-- which I read is fun as all hell.

the worst part about this tournament is that the Dutch game will feed the hype that the USMNT is making real progress. We are still so very far from any good. Played well against the Dutch to be sure. We always have that one match in us. But our lack of quality means we have to play perfect matches.

We'll qualify for the Cup, crash out in the Group, and do it all over again. "Such progress!" Bah!

Just got finished watching the DVR. Just gutted. Touchy red card, but it was certainly within the rules.

That said, who is the goat of the game--the ref, Orozco, or possibly even Nowak? I think that if you are going to play one forward, pull McBride. Jozy had the speed to beat defenders 1-on-1, something McBride does not have.

@thapeez--don't forget Klejestan, the one guy whose jump left the ground, and in whose position the ball went under the wall.

@LB--shut the fuck up. You can go back to DS if you're going to troll like that. Here's hoping for a Standard Liege win, and a Liverpool economic collapse. [kidding, mostly]

heh, glad I rankled you, u75.

It was a mildly troll-esque comment, but it's my party and I do what I want to
