Hey, Columbus fans. Fucking quit it!

This comes from We are the Postmen. I take issue with the douchenozzle writing that this is the way forward for American soccer. This is an embarrassment. Video after the jump.

See, if US fans were truly catching up to their Euro counterparts, they would be facing all-stadia bans throughout the country and put on a hooligan watchlist. Couple this with the fact that, at the same game, when New England scored their winning goal, other things started coming out of the stands. Racial epithets, batteries and bottles all aimed at the winning goal scorer, Kheli Dube.

This is the video, from the same youtube poster, of the goal and incident afterward. NSFW audio.

MLS is investigating the second incident and hopefully action will be taken against the participating parties.

Ohhhhhhhh....such hooliganism. Streamers AND plastic cups! Shocking. I do love how Sharlie flips the bird to the Columbus fans. Don't they have a TOSU spring practice to attend or something?

Agreed U75, but then again, where are they getting their inspiration from? The fascist Italians? The neanderthal sights seen in the EPL?

I do remember laughing when watching this though... funny way to hold up the game. In Italy, they'd do it with lit flares and swastikas.... none of it makes one feel especially proud.

I say they get their inspiration from beer. That, and the Italians.

The streamer thing probably comes from college basketball and football. One used to see toilet paper rolls thrown in the early 80s, but it wasn't to disrupt the game, as the rolls never got close to the field. In college basketball, at least one team's fans used to throw voluminous amounts of streamers on the court after the first basket. The NCAA started handing out technical fouls, the fans stopped.

I say that if you throw something onto the pitch, you should be tossed from the stadium. This goes for Toronto fans as well, who do the same thing. As for the second video, well, there's no justification for that at all.

I was at the FC Dallas home opener against Chivas... the club was handing out streamers to everyone coming into the stadium. No very well thought out. After the first goal it took them 5 mins to clear the field.

At least they weren't dropping turkeys from a helicopter.

As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

I'm mostly okay with streamers for celebration after a goal. I am not okay with streamers used as a tool to interrupt the visiting team's attack. It's only a matter of time before some dumbass fan decides to use the cover of streamers to throw a little something extra at a player. Once an object like that connects, it's too late.

I too was laughing while watching the first video when it initially happened. But the second video is disgusting - are we sure that wasn't in Boston?

The 2nd vid is down...anyone have a new link? Or did I miss my chance to see the racist chants?

Since it was taken down by the same guy who posted the first one, I'd say you missed it. It was the same angle as before, New England scored and celebrated in that corner. After Dube comes over, someone in the crowd (who is either the holder of the camera/cell phone or right next to him) starts calling Dube a fucking n***** and yelling other choice things at him.

Fox Soccer Report had the end of the incident on last night. At that point, you can see things (batteries and plastic bottles) being thrown on the field at the New England players celebrating.

This isn't surprising. Has anyone been to a college football game in the South?

It was only a matter of time before American supporters took cues from the worst elements of European support, and from their own behavior at other sporting events, and applied it to the MLS. (i.e., using racial epithets).
