Well Said.

The really cool thing about twitter and facebook is the immediacy of comment and reaction that can be had from people (and hopefully it is unvarnished and not sanitized comment).

Witness Jozy Altidore's tweet from about 30 minutes ago (about an hour after the end of the USA - Italy match). There was no waiting for the game report for Altidore's comments he just told the world all we needed to know.

QT: Jozy and Cherundolo go under the knife

One seems more serious than the other, though. I guess we should get used to Frankie Hejduk's hair for the Confederations Cup this summer.

Quick Throw: Jozy's club prez leads by example

Well, not really. Xerex club president Joaquin Bilbao spent the night in jail under suspicion of involvement in a shooting at a bar. There is a board meeting today to discuss his indiscretion, and it's not sure whether he'll remain in his job much longer, which is a shame, as they're currently top of the Second Division. This kind of thing can be distracting to a title run.

It's a good thing Altidore isn't more vocal about his lack of playing time, else next time, it might be him in the firing line!

Altidore and the Duck

The duck lost as Jozy Altidore put the finishing touches on Villareal's 4-1 victory over Atletico Bilbao with a goal at the close of the match. With the goal, Jozy became the first American to score in La Liga.

[Editor's Note: After thinking about this, Jozy is not the first American to score in La Liga, that honor goes to the Benedict Arnold Giuseppe Rossi, a New Jersey born Italian-American who has chosen to cast his lot with the Italian national team rather than the USMNT.]

Congratulations Jozy! We wish you many more.

Altidore came on in the 90th minute and managed to score within 30 seconds. With that sort of production, clearly he should be starting.

Showdown in Chinatown -- More to Come

Just a quick teaser for the full recap coming this afternoon from Lingering Bursitis. It was a fantastic afternoon, the sort of event that barely seemed real. Luckily, we have visual proof that it really did happen. Jozy, Titi and Reyna on a humid, sunny day in New York. [Updated with hi-res pic]

It's Oh So Quiet Around Here

Not sure if you've noticed, but we've entered into a pattern here at UF where everybody disappears on the weekends. It is safe to assume that we are all watching football, attending weddings, doing laundry and maybe even buying new drapes with the missus (not really on that last one) [I forgot to add "...and drinking."].

So, to keep you entertained until we reconvene on Monday, here's a few quick hits.

As pointed out by Gunnerblog, karma is a bitch. Aston Villa away supporters sing sick chants about Eduardo's injury, only to see Curtis Davis lost for the rest of the season with a ruptured tendon. No one is wishing harm on any player, but Villa supporters brought that one on themselves. To his credit, the always classy Martin O'Neill called the chants "disappointing."

Man U, Chelsea and Man City are rumored to be interested in Jozy Altidore. I've said I wouldn't mind if he sticks around with the Red Bulls for another season to give us something to go watch when we cover the MLS this summer (blech), but it's only a matter of time until Jozy departs for Europe as a nation turns its lonely eyes to him.

It appears that today Liverpool was in fourth place for all of 50 seconds. I would imagine there will be more on this one later. [noon-ish: Right on cue, lucky Pompey equalize, but Everton are still in fourth -- for now!] [2:30pm: Everton win 3-1 and manage to put more pressure on Liverpool.]
