This is a total bummer, but the Villa captain Martin Laursen's knee injury is forcing him into retirement at 31. If you recall, Villa's season started to go sideways (or downward rather) not long after Laursen suffered the injury. At least he'll get to stud for the rest of his life.

Knew it was coming, but that doesn't make me feel better about it. Hopefully, the new Scandanavian scout at Villa can unearth someone half as good as Laursen was when he was fit.
Hope there'll be some form of tribute to the skipper at the season finale next week.
Too bad. I've never seen a team collapse so thoroughly after losing their lynch pin like Villa did when Laursen went down. Speaks volumes about his influence, if not his ability.
This is a shame. Quite a good player the times I saw him...
