Seeee, we told you there was no way Real Madrid would sign him! [Checking earpiece] Wait.. what's that? Certainly nawt! Oh my... [clears throat] Ladies and Gentleman, UF can confirm that US defender Oguchi Onyewu has signed for AC Milan-- yes, the one in Italy. His contract had run out with Standard Liege, so Gooch was available on a free, and because of his dual citizenship (US-Belgium) he doesn't take up a non-EU roster slot.
Instant Analysis: Apparently people DO watch the Confederations Cup... Apparently people DON'T watch any other USMNT games... Could Milan be working to ratchet up excitement for their U.S. Tour (see: Unprofessional Foul-Up!)??... Seriously though, congrats to the big fella. Makes us all a bit proud to see a Yank in the Rossoneri strip-- even if it's mostly in rumor and photos from training.

Dear USMNT players,
You need to go somewhere in Europe where you can play. Sitting on the reserves bench, or being out of the squad altogether, does not help. Ask Mssrs. Adu, Altidore.
Sincerely,
hadley
Monsieur Hadley,
i agree in principle, but wouldn't you agree that what he deals with in training with Milan will be considerable more dangerous than anything he saw in Brussels or Bruges??
-Sir Lad
IN BRUGES?!?!
- Colin Farrell
If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't.
But best of luck to the Gooch. Have fun in Champions League, errr . . . Europa League!
@EF Nope, the Gooch man will indeed get to watch Champs League footy from a primetime seat at the San Siro (Milan finished 3rd in Serie A)
@everyone else-- no Purgatory/Tottenham jokes? Come now.
@Lad: I was going to make the joke - possibly the best line in In Bruges - but felt it too obvious.
I have spent countless hours looking for a clip of that line just to put into any one of a number of posts, but I have been unsuccessful.
Much like Tottenham themselves.
HEY-O!
Please start Senderos and Gooch together next year...please start Gooch and Senderos together next year...please start Gooch and Senderos together next year
Sir Lad,
I agree 100%. But he will not be match-fit when he comes for national team duty.
So the fans protest and have a mini-riot because they sold Kaka. Seems reasonable (for Serie A). And then they go out and buy oguchi Onyewu to appease them?!?
I hope this results in a hilarious buddy comedy that I'm tentatively titling, "Silvio and the Gooch", wherein the Italian President and the American/Belgian center back become unlikely friends and get into all sorts of hijinks, with plenty of gratuitous Italian hooker MP's thrown in.
hadley: I'd be worried about the playing time thing if Onyewu were younger or a midfielder. He'll see maybe 10-15 games, which at a place like AC Milan is still worth something.
@bergkampesdios - isn't Senderos back with Arsenal?
