Saturday open thread

Guess its a late start today. Wigan are at Villa right now on FSC, while later Everton travel to Man U. Other 10 am games include Arsenal hosting West Ham, Bolton hosting Spurs, Fulham against Pompey at Craven Cottage, West Brom at Hull, and Boro hosting Big Sam's boys. Discuss amongst yourselves...

  1. Bendtner on for RVP but otherwise the same lineup from Wednesday's shit show, I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Arsenal the better side so far but our set pieces have been crap.

    ReplyDelete
  3. "Bendtner's cheek caught the head of James Collins." Way to spin that.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Spectator--at least that' better than Wednesday. Today, I can at least see them scoring.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Abou Diaby seems to have mastered the late tackle.

Meanwhile, Citeh's shit show continues, having lost to Stoke 1-0.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The contrast between Bendtner and Ade is stunning. I'm not even sure the latter should be on the pitch if he is going to give this shoddy of an effort.

    ReplyDelete
  7. When did Wigan steal Spartak's road kit?

    ReplyDelete
  8. daniel de ridder looks like he should be playing the drums for soundgarden or alice in chains, not playing one-twos with mido.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Meanwhile, Heskey has slotted in and looks like he's been playing for Villa for years.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Which works out fine because my two year old is insistent on watching The Lion Sleeps Tonight on Youtube.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think someone named Sebastien Grenier just scored for Bolton. No confirmation on any relation to Vinnie Chase of Entourage.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Vela on for an injured Eboue... I found a feed that freezes every 2 seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hey! Look! An unmarked man heads home against Spurs.

Michael Dawson is not an EPL quality CB. So he'll probably shine with us in the colaship next season. Wanker.

And the foul called on Palacios just now was complete bollocks.

    ReplyDelete
  14. This is by far the best match Bentley has had for Spurs. And it's being wasted.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Any idea what happened to Eboue? I hope it's nothing serious, just enough to keep him out the rest of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1543: Still no breakthrough for Arsenal, and Dominic Fifield can report that "the home fans around the press box are taking their frustrations out on Eboue and Bendtner, surprise surprise. It's as if they expect Arsenal to run up a cricket score - as if Pires, Henry, Vieira, Ljungberg and Bergkamp were strutting their stuff out on the pitch rather than the current crop. All very unrealistic. Eboue's just crumpled to the turf injured and some of the home fans are even saying: 'Get him off, get him off, get him off.'"

    ReplyDelete
  17. And Dawson concedes a corner after beating his man to the ball. What a hopeless f*ckwit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. phil - but doesn't 'Arry love Dawson because of his "Effort" and "endeavor."

And he overpays for Palacios who has similar "hard nosed" qualities right? But what's with bringing back Chimbonda? And what's with Huddlestone playing and playing well for stretches and then sitting on the bench for stretches...

much is made about Spurs' financially and from the board room and on the pitch - but is it time we just admit that 'Arry doesn't have the team set up in the right shape - relies to much on Modric - and just can't find his best team after a few months?

    i don't know - just coming from a neutral...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey look, a Proactiv commercial. Awesome. I gotta get me some of that.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Iba, I'm more of the mind that 'Arry is trying to remake a squad that was completely cocked up by Wandy, but his dedication to Dawson and Zokora, who are equally worthless, is nothing new to Spurs. Jol had it, Wandy had it, and now 'Arry's got it. I don't grasp it.

He's playing Bentley through the middle, behind Pavs today, in a 4-5-1, and Bentley's playing well. Modric is on the wing. I agree that 'Arry relies too much on the man.

    ReplyDelete
  21. phil -

interesting that you mention the last three managers relied on zokora/dawson. good point and one that does seem a bit strange.

they are good squad players, and play for the team without flair but with some dedication, but a team aiming for Europe probably shouldn't feature them more than as substitutes or during times of congested fixtures...

Perhaps they are just absolutely brilliant in training? Maybe they have the greatest strength/stamina in the world? I just don't know what it is but there must be SOMETHING behind closed doors with Dawson that just doesn't translate to Saturdays and Sundays..

oh well - I've always been a big Defoe fan, so sad to see him out with injury. good luck...

  22. in other more vital news, my fantasy team is looking great with Bernard Mendy somehow finding the back of the net. Only his second career Premier League goal.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good morning all. Just managed to get my wifi working; miss anything in the Gunners match?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Andrew -

RvP rested. Eboue injured. And Arsenal looking odds-on favorites to win the UEFA Cup next year.

    ReplyDelete
  25. They came out brightly in the second half at least.

    ReplyDelete
  26. In an effort to have more offside flag and more unmarked men on set pieces, 'Arry brings on Bent and Jenas.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Fulhamerica sign Giles Barnes. Dangerous news for Clinton Dempsey fans...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dawson adds a booking to an already stellar day.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Found a stream. Live 2 net dot blogsot dot com

    ReplyDelete
  30. Arsenal players who score: Jay Simpson for WBA. 1-1 there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Villa really should be winning. Still 0-0.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I had the pleasure of playing power hour to the sound of Joy Division last night. Easier to stomach than the shit I'm seeing from the Arse right now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. CRAP! Ade with the best chance of the game and he misses wide, and then Vela can't connect on another cross. Please score already, Arsenal.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hey, I'm at least a minute behind Speccy. Good to know.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I maintain my assertion that Denilson is not, in fact, Brazilian.

    ReplyDelete
  36. good match here Villa - Wigan. Rodallega to net the 87th min 1-0 winner?

    ReplyDelete
  37. RVP on for Bendtner. Both of them can play on the field at the same time, right?

    ReplyDelete
  38. BAE with a handball. Spurs are a comedy of errors. Making SF Bolton look like a top 4 squad.

    ReplyDelete
  39. John Carew--worst ever bicycle attempt--66th minute.

    ReplyDelete
  40. And Spurs are back in the zone. Dawson and Co. fail to clear, and Davies slots it home. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

    ReplyDelete
  41. Listless, wasteful effort today from Spurs. Pisspoor.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Arsenal with 95% of the possession in this half, a ton of chances, and it's still nil-nil. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You gotta bury that. Don't hit it right at Green.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Gunners are throwing up settlements in the West Ham end a la the West Bank. But still no goals. This is becoming a regular Saturday morning irritant.

    ReplyDelete
  45. And how did Villa not score? And how did Titus Bramble get the final save?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Needing two goals to manage a point, 'Arry burns his final sub, and brings on Chimbonda for Corluka.

    /baffled

    ReplyDelete
  47. spectator - how? he got it in slow motion, same way he does everything else.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Vela, if you want to dive, go to Italy. Not here, buddy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hey look, a Spurs goal sighting.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wigan get caught with a keeper backpass. Villa still don't score,

    ReplyDelete
  51. OMG how did Villa not score from a freekick ten feet away from goal??

    ReplyDelete
  52. And Chimbonda makes me eat my words, as he sets Bent up with a beautiful through ball. 2-1 on 73'

    ReplyDelete
  53. Kirkland's not a very good keeper if he doesn't have defenders on the line, I'll say that.

    ReplyDelete
  54. HOLY SCREAMING EAGLE SHIT! Spurs find the equalizer!

    ReplyDelete
  55. HSES, indeed. Chimbonda involved in this one too?

    ReplyDelete
  56. My stream is down again. Need updates on Gunners.

Can't we please just score a goal? Just one fucking goal?

    ReplyDelete
  57. OK, I've decided that Villa's finishing is embarrassing. Another point-blank shot gets knocked over the bar.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sort of. He crossed in for Palacios, who took an awkward header that Jaaskelainen knocked right into Bent's feet.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Vela gets taken out at full speed by Neill. Yellow card.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Fulhamerica are stomping Pompey. 3-0 now.

    ReplyDelete
  61. @u75: I give credit to Wigan's defense.... Villa have had about 10 shots on goal cleared off the line.

    ReplyDelete
  62. (as in Neill came through at full speed on a static Vela)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well, yeah, but you gotta be able to put them where they ain't, right? Kirkland's flapping at everything out there, taking himself out of plays, only to be saved by one guy on the line. The last one that went over the bar was down to not maintaining position. Cares (I think) had defender on his back and the ball at his feet six yards out, but didn't hold the guy off. Result--corner kick.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Arsnal currently has 21 shots, but just three on goal. In the words of someone more intelligent than me, "Wtf?"

    ReplyDelete
  65. What;s this with Diaby? Is it serious? I missed it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. And that was Carew, not Cares that had the golden opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Aberdeen are back to dropping points. Boo.

    4 minutes added time, Andrew.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Gah. Stunningly bad defending. Bolton go back up on 86'

    ReplyDelete
  69. Once again, Dawson fails to mark his man, and Kevin Davies nods home the winner.

    ReplyDelete
  70. If RvP takes that to his weak right foot, he has a much better angle.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Looks like Arsenfifth can't even manage to take advantage of Villa dropping points.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This is terrible. We don't have the required personnel for CL.

    ReplyDelete
  73. A combination of Dawson, Jenas, and Woodgate all failing to get up in the air, and Dawson not marking anyone before the ball was in the air. We haven't been able to defend set pieces since Jol left.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Full time. 0-0 at Emirates.

    /Balls.

    ReplyDelete
  75. That's it. Thanks Umlaut for the updates. I'm already trying to forget this.

I love how we can have an unbeaten and a winless streak at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Haha, now we not only have Proactiv ads to look forward to but also Hooters ads. FSC's ad sales are a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Spurs drop their fourth straight on the road. 'Arry must find a back line that can defend on set pieces. Both of Davies's goals came from set pieces, one when we failed to clear, and another when we failed to mark.

    ReplyDelete
  78. well, so much for the 1st episode of Special 1 TV. Just a retrospective of IOSS instead...

    ReplyDelete
  79. We are Tottenham Super Tottenham. What the fuck. I cant believe when I go over to see Spurs next yr I will be at Loftus Rd instead of The Emirates. Cmon lads, gets stuck in. We need something from the Arsenal game

    ReplyDelete
  80. And with that goes any confidence I had that the Arse would finish in the top 4. Missed a chance to pick up 2 on Villa and at least 2 on tomorrow's match.

    Fuck.

    ReplyDelete
  81. penalty to ManU. How original...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Don't think that was in the box, but I guess the FA needs to reward United somehow after mean old UEFA suspended Vidic.

If Ronaldo wins player of the year, I'm gonna cry.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Mr. Red Devil is such a boner biter.

How anyone can genuinely get excited about United is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  84. No way... A borderline call goes United's way? This league is stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Tevez reminds me of the Boy George impersonator from The Wedding Singer.

    ReplyDelete
  86. United denied a second penalty. Just when the refs will start to respect Ferguson, I do not know. Guess their paychecks are going to be a little lighter this week.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I think more than almost anything in the world I would like see, when SAF does his little watch tap when HE thinks it's full time, for the 4th official to go over and sucker punch him in the face.

    That would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Probably easier to be a world class defender when you can get away with so much because you're wearing red.

    ReplyDelete
