Arsenal-Hull City FA Cup QF Open Thread.

Boy that's a lot of info to try to get into the title line.

We, of course, tend to care much more about Arsenal than Hull, so let's hit the Arsenal news. Almunia is out after Diouf tried to break the Spanglishiard's foot off at the ankle. Clichy is said to be sitting as well, while Arshavin really wants to play but may be out due to eight stitches in his foot. Eduardo is lightly injured again and--news flash--Rosicky is never coming back.

Hull have some no-names back, some no-names injured or cup-tied, and Geovanni back in form just in time to repeat his heroics at Emirates. Great.

Full Lineups:
Arsenal: Fabianski, Sagna, Djourou, Gallas, Gibbs, Walcott, Diaby, Song, Vela, Arshavin, van Persie. Subs: Toure, Nasri, Denilson, Silvestre, Mannone, Bendtner, Eboue.

Hull City: Myhill, Dawson, Ricketts,Halmosi, Zayatte, Ashbee, Barmby, Geovanni, Gardner, Fagan Manucho. Subs: Hughes, Duke, France, Garcia, Mendy, Folan, Featherstone.

Enjoy it. Comment away as usual. Pagination is encouraged but not required.

Excuse me but the great Jimmy Bullard is not a "no name." He is, however, injured for the rest of the foreseeable future.

Jacob said...

I thought about saying something, but decided I didn't want to have to choose which Jimmy Bullard tag to use.

So is anyone watching this one on TV?

The NY Kid said...

I literally cannot find this match anywhere. I have resorted to the FA's official website to get sad little text updates of the score

epiblast said...

I'm at work, but watching on the internet.

Ben said...

why does mendy never seem to start for hull? they always seem to play substantially better when he's on the field.

epiblast said...

watch here: http://atdhe.net/live-tv-5165.html

hockalees said...

It is on Setanta here in the US... I am PVR'ing it. Little good that does now.

Ben said...

there's a website from some stanford grads called veetle.

epiblast said...

Arsenal starting two English lads! First time in years.

GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL PALACE

Get in!!!!

hockalees said...

@Ben... is it using a port other than 80? It appears to be being blocked by my firewall.

Ben said...

i have no idea. the direct link i'm on is

Ben said...

you may have to download something to make it work? i can't remember

Ben: I've noticed the same re: Mendy. He's fast, agile, and completely unafraid to run at his opposite man.

Spectator said...

I'm following along on the Guardian MBM.

Jim Hendry said...

Whoops. That wasn't supposed to happen. The 79-year-old Nicky Barmby gets one deflected in. Commence bus parking.

Ben said...

gooooooooooooooooooooooallll. ugly deflection, but they all count. eat it arsenal.

BackBergtt said...

I think I'd rather see United win the FA Cup at this point over Arsenal. Get em Tigers!

BackBergtt said...

Quick, someone give me a number between 10 and 15!

Jim Hendry said...

Phil Brown, your bus is not on the pitch yet. Explain yourself!

Spectator said...

Right, well, time for the team to show its true character and all of that.

Jacob said...

phew. offside

Ben said...

it would have been nice to see arsenal put to bed by a brace from barmby though

Ben said...

youth vs. experience and all that

Jacob said...

Come on, Arshavin. Almmost one there. He's too small to mark!

Jacob said...

Why is Phil Browns in the stands? What has he done?

Jacob said...

Theo:touch=crapx2

Ben said...

great tackle in the hull box

Jacob said...

Getting close now

Ben said...

final ball's still a little lacking. another huge block in the hull box.

Jacob said...

Now he is down there.

That was a petulant kick out.

Jacob said...

whoa. didn't miss by much there.

jape said...

Come On Arshavin!

Jacob said...

Dammit Fabianski, just kick the ball away. That's twice he has played with it.

epiblast said...

For the first 30 minutes there it looked like Hull City were the team sitting 4th in the table.
Come on you tigers!

Jacob said...

Dammit Theo. Forget you turned 10 and play like you used to

Jacob said...

*20*

Jacob said...

Possession 71-29. Score: 0-1. Too familiar this season.

Jacob said...

Diaby with the latest miss.

Jacob said...

That bus is well and truly parked right now.

Jacob said...

Another one slides past the post after a clearance off the line. It's coming to the tune of 3 or 4 I think.

Jacob said...

Boy these crosses stink

The Fan's Attic said...

just you now umlaut?

hockalees said...

oh FFS... looks like I will have 3 hrs of crap to remove from my PVR this evening. I can't keep following the text on this; two steps forward one step back. Typical Arsenal. Tango '08-09.

The Fan's Attic said...

if you lose, now you can focus on the CL play and qualifying for next season. silver lining.

Ben said...

and maybe hull will be so distracted by the FA cup they'll go down. and next year you won't have to worry about a team who beat you twice at home this season.

Ben said...

atta boy myhill

The Fan's Attic said...

i like how we have commenters now openly cheering against the "UF teams" (ie Arsenal, Liverpool, Norwich, Spurs, and Chelsea). this is good. although the Chelsea and Spurs bile has come from ourselves as each only has 1 rep on UF.

The Fan's Attic said...

RVP equalizes from No hair on my Arse cuz he's Shavin.

Spectator said...

And so I chime in with GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

Jacob said...

was mostly, then I went outside. going back now.

Ben said...

atta boy bendtner. way to not surprise anyone with that miss.

Ben said...

i know how you feel. i'm torn between my love of the underdog and my hatred for arsenal.

Jacob said...

back inside,just as planned

Spectator said...

Well, without having seen any of this game all I can say is....

And it's Arsenal,
Arsenal FC
The greatest team
The world has ever seen!!

And like the Fan's Attic I appreciate that commentors are cheering against our teams, because it makes it so much more sweeter when we win!

We're going to Wembley
We're going to Wembley

Ben said...

well now that tottenham are back to winning, we cynical spurs fans can't take any more pleasure from wallowing in our failure. thankfully arsenal are also back to winning so i can watch them and feel bad about myself again. it's refreshing.

Spectator said...

Cheers Ben. And to be fair, notice that I only chimed in when we were ahead?

bergkampesdios said...

Can anyone explain why Wenger was such an ass after the game? Only watched the second half...did he and Brown get into it earlier?

hockalees said...

I just got back to my desk after "dumping core" in my favorite stall on another floor to see that Arsenal got the apparently undeserved win.

I promise my fellow Gunners I will eat a lot of fiber before the semi-final, in case it had anything to do with today's result.

bergkampesdios said...

And now Brown is claiming Cesc spit on one of his assistants after the match. What the hell is going on?

Ben said...

cesc fabregas...acting like a d-bag? that's weird and completely unexpected.

BackBergtt said...

Holy god what a bad screwjob for Hull. Oh well. Back to the Championship with you then.

EbullientFatalist said...

A Spaniard acting rudely? In the name of Inigo Montoya, I find such an accusation inconceivable!

Precious Roy said...

I watched with some English people who couldn't comprehend an American sitting down and asking. "Is Mike Riley reffing?"

That was way nervier than it should have been, but yippee!

jjf3 said...

Sarah,
If I remember correctly, you were actually at this game. What did you think? Get any good pics to share? And, yes, I obviously haven't checked your personal site yet...
I can be ass-backwards that way...

jjf3 said...

@PR,
I find that to be a somewhat cool feeling when it happens, but I'm wearing out the surprise factor now here in H-town...after watching the Red-Scouse Massacre of ManUre early Saturday morning at the bar, I spent the next two hours talking to an English Arsenal fan while we watched the Gooners recreate that experience against the Rovers. Safe to say neither experience was what I expected when I headed to the bar...

Sarah said...

Yep, I was at the game!! It was aaamazing. I mean, I've seen better as far as actual play goes, but you really can't beat watching your team come from behind to win an FA cup quarter. Got a couple of pictures, although I wasn't exactly close to the action so they aren't high quality.

And yeah I get the surprise factor thing too...doubly so, because I'm an American AND a girl. Shockhorror.

jjf3 said...

Sarah,
1) Congrats on staying up this late (or, rather, being a college student!)
2) Glad you enjoyed it, even as a non-Gooner - getting to Ewood is my goal for this coming season...
3) Being female must make it even better...even Irish women are surprised at my CSC when I'm not the typical "American idiot".
4) How bad was the crowd? The BBC live text included somebody who claimed they had noone within 10 seats/rows...just curious...and how did you see (from wherever you were) the game-winner?
